Cracker Ten Years On Returns To TV Screens

10-04-2006 11:18

‘Cracker’ is returning to TV screens after more than a decade.

The detective drama – which attracted 15 million viewers at the height of its popularity in the 1990s – is coming back for at least one more series.

Star Robbie Coltrane, 56 - who is now best known for playing Hagrid in the ‘Harry Potter’ films - has signed up to return as hard-living police shrink Fitz.

TV bosses decided to bring back the show after producers made a one-off special, which will be screened later this year.

Show creator Jimmy McGovern is now writing a whole new series for 2007.

An ITV source is quoted in Britain’s The Sun newspaper as saying: “Jimmy always fancied bringing Cracker back, but it’s been difficult to get Robbie to commit because he’s so busy.

“Luckily, everyone’s enjoyed doing the one-off so much they’ve agreed to a series."
